Poetry - "danseuse/debutante" #NaPoWriMo Day 10

Day 10:

danseuse/debutante
by Jennifer Patino

when you dance
the very essence of being stirs in every person around you

they could be
watching, joining in, seeing you on a competition video

it never matters
all the rhythm of oceans, the world's heartbeats, are yours, they give freely

when you ask
my advice for every decision, especially those involving love

I feel inadequate
because I often feel no one is worthy of trying to keep up with you

I don't mean
this in a bad way, no never would I speak ill of pure sunshine

I just need
to see you smile always & whirl around at warped speed

with a partner
who flows through your veins like your skirts in the breeze

when you dance
on your big day I'll be there, applauding with all the rest

Author's Note: Today's optional prompt is a portrait poem of someone important to you.

  1. This is beautiful and tender. It reads like a portrait of a beloved daughter.
