Poetry - "Nocturne" #NaPoWriMo Day 17

Day 17:

by Jennifer Patino

By glow of porch lights,
That is how nostalgia
is best viewed    Birds warble,
gentle moaning    I believed
they were invisible,    Or
only in my crowded head space,
or scribbled in gathered
ash on granite    But they
were just hidden away    Under
terra cotta tiles    And
the stars wanted me to
read too much into them
but I was in tune to
the language of another time
These longings,    They
don't sleep    I return
my soul to the night to keep
