#MicropoetryMonday - May 22 - 28, 2017

I take a few nights,
Bask in lunar serenity,
Then return,
Recharged,
Moon kissed,
Luminous,
and sparkle eyed

****

Sweet breath of spring
Revives
Decrepit and vulnerable
Seedlings
With a wisp of newness, and perpetual
Growth

****

Shaky, treacherous bridges
I tiptoed, slow as a timid turtle
across every one
Your smile
encouraged me onward, blindly,
in faith

****

Ghosts of dead writers-
invisible mentors
left clues
in their visions
on manila paper
I decipher
by dawn's light
I've been at this all night

****

Blooming lilac marked
the end of the street
The overgrown yard
forced reclusiveness
Earth & floral scents
on post rain strolls

****

I love right now
I'm too busy savoring this moment,
living today's dreams, breathing
in the present
to think about the future

****

Vision adjusts
to the dim
blade of moonlight
Furry rabbits
scamper to hide
Our boots
crunch leaves
Our hearts search
with purpose

****

Our tired voices
across state lines
We share shade telepathically,
shield eyes from the sun,
Look at the same hawk
in different sepia tones

****

Stoke the fire,
compose tales
of undeniable terror
to keep the young ones
tossing & turning
with monsters
in their heads all night

****

Entangled in golden
beauty of you
on the pier
Sunset
More majestic
than the lighthouse,
your smile in the dark
leads me home

****

Funneled
Swirling

The vortex
is near

Point of
returning

Turning
a corner
a timeline

Crossing
a threshold
a stream

The world
is a drain

****

I keep to the cool space
behind the glass,
my breath fogging
from the frigid air,
mindlessly doodling
your name on the window pane

****

Faint echoes
of midnight whispers,
senses tense

Tendrils of fear,
smoky fingers
beckoning me from beyond

****

Chatoyant iris
darting about

Desultory damsel
damaged, distressed

A token glance, good luck charm
misplaced or repressed

****

Equilibrium imbalance
Gram said,
when the moon was out in daytime,
we were standing on our heads
Glass bauble vision
The sky tilts

****

Ancient, nasty thoughts
 blossom below

My soil, too tilled,
 barren, a wilted lily

You grew in your garden,
 a perfect bouquet

****

I phantom taste autumn
when chills run up and
down my arms Moth
visits, catching my eye
in the corner A night just
like this we bid farewell

****

Fading slowly
to steam
on asphalt
after a freak summer shower

Nothing lasts long
when you need
a cool down
once every hour

****

Your stories,
succulent offshoots of juicy details,
some bitter, some sweet.

Never gossip,
just main courses,
life's meat.

****

Bliss in a field
of oil painted sunflowers
On my back,
cloud gazing, lazy days
Belly full
of Auntie's rhubarb pie,
summer haze

****

Other worldly encounter
left codes on a crooked spine
Blinded by grace
Born, broken
by a glimpse at a human heart
through alien eyes

****

We will complete
our telepathic circle,
my sister

We will find you
in every ether

We will dance in your holy flames
& forgive you...forgive

****

Swallowed thorns. They're tearing me apart.

****

Perhaps the memory of winter

burns my skin, fills my veins with acid,
clouds my head

Still I dream of falling snow

****

Crush of nostalgia
Every season,
clockwork crusade

Strategically placed reminders
in line of vision,
in printed word,
in song

****

No wind or rain
to wash those tears away

So let them fall,
nourish a soul, clear an airway

For when breathing begins again,
you're reborn

****

Falling stars, pink lemonade
Love, teenage wonder,
under magenta skies
Swimming in fountains,
rose petal cheeks,
laughing eyes

****

Dirty halos
surround swinging colored lanterns

Storm's coming,
amber courage swirls in a glass

Dancing winds pick up
embers, & falling ash

****

What do I see?
The painful waiting
for light of dusk,
tire tracks embedded in clay,
mothers on the ground, sobbing,
men in dust driving away

****

Relics
Codes to crack
Polished bronze chalices
take me back
to the hidden room
where walls whispered
secrets of prosperity,
warnings of doom

****

White lace dresses, green sashes
Daisy chains for May Day
Immaculate angels
Traipsing through mud puddles
Much to mom's dismay

****

Still managing
to squeeze some verses
from the diseased marrow
of my ashen bones

I add my breath to the dust pile

****

I am weathered and worn
from dry winds

I am sand blown
I am rock, eroded

I billow still, tattered and torn
Desert in my backbone

****

Her bitter lips
ran with accusations and rebuke

Her saccharine kisses,
a poor substitute

For the fair love
he once knew

****

A melee of staccato tones
drew us closer to the origin/
Our center/Your curious eye/
Vibrant heart/Your mind/
Opened to the sky

****

I am one

painted in the center of a twisted,

leafless forest

        forever lost in your

 tangled reverie

****

She loathed the tiger
in the corner

Always waiting
as she rested

in the arms
of a vigorous dreamer

A pouncing nightmare,
poised to attack

****

Lace curtain
clouds pirouette,
collide with one another

Dancing
at the window,
a chocolate silhouette

A vision I won't forget

****

There's a shadow me
Holding my missing pages
Minding the storyline gaps
Plotline twists
Filling the void ending
But she hides

****

Summer light
Shades of orange, yellow,
& grey
Depending on time of day

I detest it all
With no apology
I long for the
Nightfall

****

Sun catcher casts
a lilac glow
across my face
in the after breakfast light

Baby songbirds harmonize
with the music of my heart

****

Dream passage
in a boat of hollow bones
lost in an obsidian ocean

Across astral boundaries
seeing all that is, was,
and will be

****

Jasmine, that heady scent,
beautiful double edged sword
Valley night walks, taco truck,
corner store pan dulce
Bee stings,
lonesome summers

****

We don't question
the chairs
around the fire pit
that no one sits in

They're occupied
by the memory
of our loved ones
in the air

****

Downcast sun
Nothing is more beautiful
Than the stacked colors of dusk
Nothing dries tears better
Than a dusty desert wind

****

Pinched nerve so I know I'm awake
Thoughts that won't take a break

Coffee & tastes of other worlds
On the back porch crying, eyes unfurled

****

The charming boy returned
to the land of pure light

With a wave, and a quiet
blink of azure eyes

****

Climbing those ivory soap towers,
powdered sugar showers,
your pale eyelid flutters,
feel of the fall,
shaky mouth
mutters down

****

the sweet synthesis
of almond hazelnut
kisses and the way
the morning light
hits your freckles
is my heavenly delight

****

In the remake,
the nightingale's soft call
will be replaced by the coo
of the snowy owl

You're better
in the cold grey of winter

****

Find me
during the
next eclipse
I'll be in
the moon's shadow
A ghost
whispering
universal mysteries
in your ear

****

I missed the old lad,
schmaltzed on aged whisky
Telling me stories,
keeping rhythm of the pub jukebox
with his wooden topped cane

****

Windy
New Moon bringing changes
Time for a clean slate
Time for renewal
Time...
Everything
in its time
Tonight

****

The willows stopped weeping
They danced, welcoming the storm

The fires smoldering,
fizzling in the drizzle

Tears of joy
A summer miracle

****

Ice cube cracks,
silver on ceramic scrape,
mindless banter,
you
🌻~
and the daisies
in the centerpiece
tremble like my
nervous, shaking knees

****

Our talks have me twisted
Your questions are enigmas,
your answers are riddles

But we'll navigate
another way out of this maze

****

Temptation--
the stars hear confessions
in gasps of icy breath

The moon--
a cold, bitter smirk
piercing the night

****

making sweet wishes on dandelions
discarded by another
because no matter how broken,
or battered,
a thing clinging to life has hope

****

I cannot see clearly
through summer eyes

Heat haze, blinding sunlight,
days drag on, in a daze

Thermostats lie,
I am cooling

****

The poets are napping
Dancing in dreams of verses
Swimming in similes
Making memories
   into metaphors

****

Bones melt under electric skin,
a painful mix,
electric fire dance

Every fiber & follicle singed,
uncontrollable inferno
spreads & spreads

****

Bitter taste of scorched Americano,
inflicted by lack of focus
This is what happens
when you sail away
under cloak of midnight
Unsure return

****

A good journey is bumpy
Rolling hills, soaring heights
The key to enjoying this life
Buckle up, hang on
Not a moment to waste

****

Keep the raucous applause

I would rather the silence of the room
when I'm finished

I would rather the rustling
of beetles in their heads

****

Crying into the old creek
It was clear once, pure

The stones on the bottom,
shining and polished

My young face reflected
in a murky grave

****

Impatiently waiting for body to mend
Arms twitching,
fingernails clicking w/
insatiable urges
to keep spilling it all out

****

Every little bit of me
under your hematite microscope

I trust you to hold my gaze
I love you and your thankful scrutiny

****

Retreating to the woodland
hibernation hideout

Gathering fireflies
to light a way in the dark

Shunning the sunburn assault
on brittle skin

****

From "Melancholia"

Seasick
from this melancholia,
tumultuous ebb & flow

I shall be carried away
on seagulls' wings;
I shall bathe in salted tears

****

Windows open in the morning
letting traffic in-
Invading dreams
I awake,
phantom smelling the flowers
that once lined the sill

****

New moon nights

Becoming clam-like,
keeping all of my pearls inside

To be shared at another time
when I am untangled
and unshelled

****

This is the second spring
I've (consciously) cried
for the salmon,
the northern deer,
forgotten buffalo,
& all that life water

****

I have to let my shadow soul
come up for air

Life's chokehold
loosens its grip
now and then

when the stars
align with menace

****

Some
will never know
what it's like
when the tears stop
on their own
or the beauty of
hidden light
in a rarely seen smile

****

I woke up in an earthquake

Aftershocks of decadent dreams

I take deep breaths of gratitude

The air is still clear

Still

****

I couldn't wait
to be moved by inspiration.

I just ran wild,
my words in the driver's seat.

****

His message written on the window
was what got her out of bed

Spelled out in electric tape,
"You Are Beautiful" is what it said

****

Grappling with righteousness
Flirting with darkness & sin

This is a lone battle
Often fought within

****

On rocky ledges
I'm reminded
of 4th of July weekend,
firework tempers,
falling into sunsets
& how I'm here
shedding my skin again

****

Dry, sand-caked summer lips
I'd kiss them still
I'd put on extra green apple chapstick
& share that fruity moisture with you

****

Old man feels brittle
Music keeps him hanging on, strong
He cradles his guitar,
polished, pristine
when too tired to play on

****

These eyes
shouldn't have seen so much
These ears
shouldn't still hear
Screams from decades ago
or be reminded of every awful thing
everyday

****

colorful swirls of always
blend together when our
heart auras become one

****

I missed you before you left
Distance measured in oceans
as we sat side by side
Remember?
Or was I gone from your mind too?

****

The ringing of the bell
A faint tinkling down the hall
We hear it now
When all is quiet
Even though you've been dead for years

****

Lightheaded
I collapse
Into grey vertigo
Pulsing with violet lights
Sometimes explosions
Sometimes bliss
Dizzy electric dance

****

I take each day
one hour at a time

Sometimes,
minutes feel like milestones

Moment to moment,
I ramble along

****

Under trees,
you & I spoke of dreams
Florida sea breeze in your hair,
hot sun
splashing you with patterns
of shadow and light

****

Photographic memory
The blessing and curse of my life
Winter's last rose wilted
The jewel lost her shine
And I can't forget

****

The matter
is in my own hands
A transfusion
slipping through
My shaking fingers
can't grasp your fluidity
Or any of your other
changing states

****

I look around
and at you especially
  and know with
all that I am
  that I'm perfectly happy
with this earthly eternity
with you

****

Her countenance
carried a likeness
in certain light

The fluorescents
on her frizzy hair,
silver like my mother's

****

Anytime
the beast inside
decides
to warp my view

I have no choice
but to silence my voice
and surrender to
a world askew

****

His wild side
Fuzzy haloed beach moon
He's screaming his anger
About a Lou Reed song
I try to circle back to Journey
He just howls

****

broken but not
irreparable

familial bonds

when blood means nothing
until it's spilled

****

Wanderer, I took the dust
from your torn coat,
Turned it into gold

You became precious
My prized apprentice
I, your alchemist

****

The story of summer rain
brought tears to my eyes

All is
f
  a
     l
      I
        i
        n
        g
from the same sky

****

Nightmares of falling
right before waking
where it seems like the end

Then the floor drops out
from under your feet
upon waking

****

Hyper experience-
gritty banana bread,
savoring every morsel
on a parched tongue
A dash of humidity-
I taste
sandpaper on tired bones

****

The chapel simulated
a marble tomb

Your hideout, my secrets
whispered in candle flickers

Outside, hum of the wasp
in the white rose bush

****

Parting the pathways
feeling like an intruder
a scab

One less human
one less me

An eliminated threat
from the atmosphere

Cracks & scars

****

I saw the puppets
& thought
how sad
that we hate ourselves
so much
we long
to be
anything else
Another skin
species
Just another way to feel

****

I read those poets unafraid of
the sight of their own blood
Reflections, aging maybe,
not fearing their own nonsense
I'm ashamed that I do

****

Cold feet make me think of the beach
Toasty warm sand

I remember the glitters
On turquoise waves

They weren't always
so blinding & painful

****

Awake
A place so lush
the waterfall hardly seems necessary
Trickling tears of happiness
A peaceful setting
A quaint greeting

****

Classic film binge
Recurring trope
Man
stabbing his reflection
Man
blaming leading ladies
for all his problems

Man, things haven't changed

****

Taking
from the pictures

Creating
false memories

(It's no one's fault,
the stories were forced
to twist themselves)

Surviving
the traumas

****

Take me to the fields,
Elysian
Even if only a view
from that window
That rustic room
in the mountains
We talked about
last summer

****

Swear to find
the most succulent
of the pomegranates.
Choke on
bitter seeds when
you are wrong.
So very wrong.

****

I'd ask him
about roads to take
& down which one he was headed
He said
"Hell is what
you make of
a never ending
quest for Heaven"

****

Walks home with you

Virtuous musings,
your saintly attitude

What signs of deceit
in the crosswalks
did I miss?

****

Fingerprints on water

I know what
connects us--

The intangible

The spaces in between
the visuals
that we feel
in ocean waves
on bare skin

****

You'll never know
how much your hand
in mine was needed
during that run for my
life down memory lane

Nostalgia can be a
dangerous road alone

****

Blessed to experience
the magic of a flat rock
on a still pond. How water
can heal. How a sunset
forces you to listen to
songs of the woods.

****

Living fully

Some concept
some people know

But the ones who can't
look at their own faces
without feeling it's wrong

We live just enough

****

The joy of summer
is that if one is patient enough,
gets lost in enough books,
& always refills the ice trays,
it'll fly on by

****

Free minutes were costly
Harried woman, please stop
Breathe
Be rewarded with a rare glimpse
of secrets behind tiny, bright eyes

****

We grew in shadows
of collected ideas
we'd never live up to

But, live it up, always
Kicking up our damaged heels

That we could do

****

Haiku:

Not a tear was shed
at the promise to the end
of all suffering

****

Pretty pictures tell
our stories in case we grow
too old and forget

****

I'm thinking it's time
but the clock is a liar
I just want to go

****

Cringing at the news
Especially the weather
report   Damn summer

****

VSS (Very Short Stories):

I took a photograph with my mind, savoring this moment to the time capsule of my memory. I prayed it never be forgotten.

****

"Awe"

Growing up is fine, just
please don't lose the awe.

****

We'd wait out rain, popping bubble gum, under makeshift tarp.
She'd glare up with hawk eyes, commanding grey skies to part.

****

"Porch"

I listened to many lifetimes
on that porch in Detroit.

****

WIP (Works in Progress):

"It's alright-" she says, my hand trembling in hers.
"-if you just keep breathing through it."
I succumb to the blackbirds' horrid pecking.

****

"The stuff I'm made of depends on the day. Stick around long enough and maybe I'll show you."

****

"What a crock of-"
"Beans!" Cindy interrupted, dragging me out of the room. "In the crock pot. He's right! We'll go check them"

****

"Picking favorites isn't my style." He grinned and I hung my head. "Oh, come on! I brought you here, didn't I?" He had a point.

****

I loved all that blue. In your eyes, that stupid shirt, the ocean, and the sky right before the first star peeked its face out.

****

I said nothing. Why would it matter that my hand was always on my phone ready to dial her every single time she called?

****
